Responsibilities Tasks Calculate dimensions, sizes, shapes and tolerances of parts to be machined Ensure, using precise measuring instruments, that machined parts meet requirements Program computer-assisted numerical control machine tools Read and interpret plans, maps, drawings and specifications Machine cast parts to fabricate metal molds, core boxes and precision-shaped models Mount and operate spark erosion machining equipment Prepare, shape and assemble metal, wood, plastic and other material gauges based on plans or models Set up, securely fasten and measure metal blocks or cast parts and perform necessary layout markings for machining Adjust and operate conventional and computer-controlled machine tools Read and interpret plans, diagrams and drawings Design tools, dies, gauges and apparatus Computer-aided design (CAD)
