Work Environment Dusty Noisy Commercial workplace Home-based Various work locations Responsibilities Tasks Read plans, drawings and specifications to determine job requirements Apply multiple layers of filler and sand longitudinal and transverse joints Apply smooth and uniform plaster coats Clean and prepare surfaces Treat freshly plastered surfaces Cut and install metal corner beads to protect exterior corners Fill joints, nail heads, holes and cracks with joint filler products using trowels or wide-blade knives Finish angles and corners and create, as needed, decorative patterns in the finish coat Measure, cut, adjust and install drywall panels Mix ingredients to obtain plaster with desired consistency Mold and install panels, cornices and ornamental plaster mouldings Lay and fasten panels to wooden or metal studs or joists Remove excess filler and allow to dry Spray soundproofing materials or textured finish on walls and ceilings Apply tape to joints using taping machines and coat tape with filler product Apply, by trowel or spray gun, layers of stucco on exterior walls of a building to create weather-resistant surfaces Fasten metal or gypsum laths to studs or furring Drill openings in laths to accommodate heating and ventilation piping as well as ducts and electrical outlets Install acoustic tiles, suspended ceiling supports and metal fasteners for wall panel or lath assembly Apply corner beads and metal mesh around beams to be plastered Install steel framing on interior and exterior Install metal framing and furring strips for drywall or stucco walls and ceilings using hand and power tools Prepare wall and ceiling configuration Estimate costs and materials Work at heights or on scaffolding Assemble scaffolding and other work platforms
