Responsibilities Tasks Train apprentices in the trade Apply multiple layers of filler and sand longitudinal and transverse joints Apply smooth and uniform plaster coats Clean and prepare surfaces Treat freshly plastered surfaces Cut and install metal corner beads to protect exterior corners Fabricate and install metal frames and panels to form suspended ceilings and install panels to form soundproof ceilings and coffered ceilings Fill joints, nail heads, holes and cracks with joint filler products using trowels or wide-bladed knives Finish angles and corners and create decorative patterns in the finishing coat if needed Measure, cut, fit and install gypsum panels Mix ingredients to obtain plaster with desired consistency Mold and install panels, cornices and ornamental plaster moldings Attach and fasten panels to wooden or metal studs or joists Apply tape to joints using drywall taping machines and coat tape with filler product Fasten metal or gypsum lath to studs or furring strips Cut openings in lath to pass heating and ventilation piping as well as conduits and electrical outlets Install acoustic tiles, suspended ceiling supports and metal clips for wall panel or lath composition Install corner beads and metal mesh around beams to be plastered Install steel frames on interior and exterior Install vapor barriers and thermal and soundproof insulation Prepare wall and ceiling configuration Use laser alignment device Estimate costs and materials Operate computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) systems and other computer systems Work at heights or on scaffolding Assemble scaffolding and other work platforms Read and interpret plans, maps, drawings and specifications Supervisory Functions 1 to 2 person(s)
