Responsibilities Tasks Discuss work with supervisor Verify and test mechanical components to locate defects and imperfections Inspect mechanical units to locate faults and malfunctions Inspect engine operation Examine work instructions Perform road tests on motor vehicles Test automotive systems and components Adjust, repair or replace defective parts or components of various vehicle systems Repair or replace mechanical elements or components Test repaired systems and adjust them according to manufacturer specifications Estimate the cost of parts and labor for vehicle maintenance and repair Perform periodic maintenance operations Test and adjust components according to specifications Discuss with customers the operations performed and repairs that will need to be made in the future Complete reports to document defects and work performed Provide customer service
